about

Guitar Drum Improve music created by Russ Foreman, Chuck Hippert, and Larree Hollywood in the tradition of the great psychedelic jam bands from the sixties to the present day. The first music sessions took place at Chuck Hipperts drum studio Caraway Lane Studios. Russ Foreman took basic live drum and guitar tracks from these sessions and crafted the full band Contemplating Waves album released here.

It starts with the title track: Contemplating Waves - imagine sitting on the beach drifting off to sleep. As the sound of the waves turn to the waves of images that create the dream, the dreamer is brought into a new but familiar world. The rhythmic senses reflect familiarity but change is also evident. The individuality of the waves is becoming the individuality of each approaching dream.

second track: Dan Jam appears as someone in the distance walked by playing a Steely Dan song on the radio - the discordant rhythm (represented by one of the guitars) was morphed into a melodic mellow jam that did not cause the dreamer to awaken from the dream but merge the waking and dreaming world into one perception.

third track: Sawdust Hill - a memory from a long lost love drifts into the dreamscape - the dance at the house on Sawdust Hill where the first meeting took place. The romantic longing created there pervades this dream world.

fourth track: Holiday Interlude - the memory from the dance morphs into memories of the holiday season and meetings with family and friends. A wonderful party indeed.

fifth track: Fantasy Part 1 - The Monolith Revealed - the holiday dreamscape morphs as a giant rainstorm moves the dreamer to another world. Distant thunder and lightning permeates the rainstorm and the dreamer races towards a clearing in the distance revealing a mysterious monolith far far away.

sixth track: Fantasy Part 2 - Looking For Prudence: In seeing the monolith, the dreamer is reminded of the Beatles song dear Prudence but it morphs into a calling of won't you come out to play and meet the brand new day. The dreamer contemplates braving the rainstorm and finally decides to go explore the road to the monolith.

seventh track: Fantasy Part 3 - Racing Through The Himalays - as the fantastical journey continues the dreamer starts racing again through the rain storm towards the monolith. The dreamer encounters four enchanting worlds before finally arriving at the monolith. With all the lessons of the dreams intact the dreamer finally races through a door at the bottom of the monolith signaling the end of the dream and a return back to the waking world.
